In an article published in the March 4 edition of North of 60 Mining News Weekly Online Newsletter, the outcome of an Alaska Public Offices Commission investigation into alleged campaign violations by the Renewable Resources Coalition, Alaskans for Clean Water, and Robert Gillam was incorrectly reported.
The parties were accused of committing the potential violations while campaigning for approval of an anti-mining ballot measure during the 2008 Alaska primary election. They denied the allegations and made no admissions of any wrongdoing. The two groups and Gillam agreed to pay the State of Alaska US$100,000, but APOC made no determination that the parties committed any violations.
By accepting the consent decree, the campaign watchdog agency agreed that “no further proceedings against respondents will be brought by APOC with regard to these matters.”
North of 60 Mining News regrets the errors.
