DIAMONDS – Peregrine Diamonds Ltd. Aug. 23 reported the recent discovery of six new kimberlites at the Chidliak project on Baffin Island in Nunavut. The new discoveries bring the total number of kimberlites discovered to date on the project to 38. Three of the new kimberlites, CH-33, CH-35 and CH-36, were discovered at surface by prospecting, and the other three, CH-34, CH-37 and CH-38, were discovered by core drilling. The 2010 summer exploration program continues with the drilling of geophysical anomalies by two core rigs and a reverse circulation rig. Drilling is expected to continue until early September. The discovery of the six new kimberlites at Chidliak currently brings the total discovered in 2010 to 22. Of the 38 kimberlites discovered so far, 21 have been discovered by prospecting and 17 by drilling. Samples from new kimberlite discoveries are being sent to the Saskatchewan Research Council for diamond analysis by caustic fusion and results will be reported as they become available.
DIAMONDS – Peregrine Diamonds Ltd. Aug. 20 reported the completion of its 2010 field program on the 315,000-hectare, or 778,000-acre Nanuq project located about 300 kilometers, or 186 miles, north of Rankin Inlet in Nunavut. During the program, which began in mid-May with ground geophysics, 495 kimberlite indicator mineral samples were collected and three kimberlite-type geophysical anomalies were drill-tested. A total of 1,550 line kilometers of ground magnetic and electromagnetic surveys were conducted over priority geophysical anomalies that were selected from previously completed airborne surveys. Kimberlite-type geophysical anomalies were then prioritized for drilling. Three holes were drilled into three targets, for a total of 492 meters, without intersecting kimberlite. In addition, 495 KIM samples were collected as a follow-up to KIM anomalies identified from previous exploration work and to further assess additional geophysical anomalies. Upon receipt of results from the KIM sampling program, geophysical anomalies will be assessed and prioritized for drilling in 2011. The core rig used for this year’s program is being stored at the Nanuq camp and will be used in 2011.
In addition, the company has completed a 2010 field program on its new 1.5 million-hectare, or 5,792-square-mile, Cumberland project located northeast of Pangnirtung on Baffin Island, Nunavut. During July and August, 2010, Peregrine conducted a reconnaissance sediment sampling program to evaluate Cumberland’s diamond and metals potential. A total of 337 KIM samples were collected and test results from these samples will determine the nature and scope of future exploration programs, Peregrine said.
URANIUM – Forum Uranium Corp. Aug. 26 reported that an extensive mapping and sampling campaign on uranium and rare earth targets followed by a large gravity survey has been completed on the North Thelon project in Nunavut. Forum’s property surrounds on three sides Areva’s Kiggavik mine development project (134 million lbs U3O8) that currently is in the feasibility and permitting stage. A soil sampling survey also has been completed on the Henday project under option with Hathor Exploration and soil sampling is currently underway on its Highrock project in northern Saskatchewan. Results are pending for geochemistry, but some preliminary results have been returned from the labs. At North Thelon, mapping was conducted to complete the geology map in priority areas of uranium potential and a soil sampling survey was completed along a 2-kilometer-long showing (the Graphite zone, with grades of up to 1.07 percent U3O8) to give a layer of geochemical information, which will aid in developing targets for a drill program. The samples are currently being processed at Loring Labs in Calgary. Ground gravity has been completed on six high priority grids for a total of about 3,000 stations. A number of gravity anomalies (gravity lows) have been identified and are considered excellent uranium targets for a future drill program. A gravity low usually indicates low density rocks, which may have been created by alteration. Areva’s Kiggavik uranium deposits are all marked by gravity lows, and Forum has used this technique as part of a multi-year target definition process, in combination with resistivity, geochemistry and geology. Most of the preliminary work has now been completed on this large project generating multiple promising targets, and it is now in a drill-ready state. Percussion and diamond drilling of these priority targets in 2011 is proposed to take this project to its next level.
In the Nutaaq area, a 10km by 8km granite/syenite intrusive complex along a major structure which returned strongly anomalous rare earth element values up to 3.8 percent total rare earth oxides) in previous years, Forum said sampling and mapping also were completed. Sampling in 2010 has returned further encouraging values, with a peak value of 7.6 percent TREO, which are presented below in Table 1. Work is ongoing utilizing this new data to determine the nature and control of the REE occurrences such that this mineralization can be properly tested by drilling. The significance of the REE mineralization in the Nutaaq area is apparent due to its large extent and significant grades of REE mineralization.
GOLD ¬- North Country Gold Corp. Aug. 25 reported results from the 2010 summer drill program drilling at the Antler target within the Three Bluffs Gold Project in the Committee Bay Greenstone Belt located northeast of Baker Lake, Nunavut. Drilling continues to expand the Antler zone and has identified the presence of high-grade shoots within the pervasively mineralized structure. Nine holes were drilled at the Antler target on the Walker Lake Trend during the summer 2010 program. The Antler target, located approximately 1.5 km from the western extent of the Three Bluffs Resource area, has now been tested by 21 drill holes along 700 meters of strike primarily by a series of two hole fences at a 60-metre spacing. All holes have intersected mineralization within the same stratigraphic horizon that hosts the Three Bluffs deposit. The latest drill results at Antler and Hayes have indentified the presence of high-grade shoots with abundant visible gold and grades similar to those seen at Three Bluffs. North Country Gold Corp. is focusing exploration along the Walker Lake Trend, targeting new shallow gold resources and drilling has been conducted in three key areas Three Bluffs, Antler, and Hayes. In total about 2.5 kilometers of the 4.1 kilometers of the exposed trend has been tested by shallow drilling with significant gaps remaining to be tested between Three Bluffs and Antler and Antler and Hayes. The trend remains open to the west of Hayes and to depth with the majority of drill testing being less than 100 meters below surface. “North County Gold’s summer drilling at Antler has delivered some exceptional results with wide, high-grade gold intercepts,” said John Williamson, president and CEO of North Country Gold Corp. “The magnitude of the Three Bluffs Project is becoming clearer as we have now identified gold mineralization in numerous rock types including iron formation, greywackes, felsic volcanic and granitoids all within a corridor of sheared supracrustal rocks termed the Walker Lake Trend. It is apparent that we are looking at a major shear-hosted gold system with significant resource potential that we can trace for at least 15 kilometers.”
The Three Bluffs Gold Project currently hosts an indicated resource of 508,000 ounces (2.7Mt at 5.85 grams per metric ton gold) and an additional inferred resource of 244,000 ounces (1.27Mt at 5.98 g/t gold) at the Three Bluffs Deposit which remains open to the west and to depth. The deposit occurs at the eastern end of a package of auriferous iron formation bearing supracrustral rocks (Walker Lake Trend) that has been traced at least five kilometers west which the 2010 drilling indicates has the potential to be continuously mineralized. North Country Gold Corp. believes that significant potential exists along the Walker Lake trend and has developed a strategy to indentify additional near-surface open-pittable gold resources along the strike length of the trend, which will incrementally add to the existing high-grade resource inventory underpinned by the Three Bluffs Deposit. North Country Gold Corp. controls one of the largest under-explored greenstone belts within Canada, and has numerous drill-ready high-grade gold targets, in addition to those at Three Bluffs. The gold-rich Committee Bay Greenstone Belt is located about 300 kilometers, or 186 miles, north of Baker Lake, Nunavut. North Country Gold currently owns mineral rights to some 225,569 hectares, or 557,323 acres of land comprising 216 active mineral claims and 14 mineral leases.
