RARE EARTHS – Ucore Rare Metals Inc. June 25 said a C$2.5-million diamond drilling program at their Bokan - Dotson Ridge rare earth project in southeast Alaska is scheduled to begin in mid-July. “It’s great to see this program get underway as one of the final steps required to trigger our forthcoming feasibility study,” said Ucore COO Ken Collison. The 5,000-meter program, to be managed by Aurora Geosciences, consists of 2,500 meters of infill drilling; 1,500 meters of deep targeted drilling to expand the resource at depth; and 1,000 meters of geotechnical and groundwater drilling to support environmental analysis and the upcoming permitting process. This drilling program has been fully permitted with approvals from the United States Forest Service. “I am very pleased to see our Bokan project moving forward according to plan,” said Ucore President and CEO Jim McKenzie. “Very few heavy rare earth projects outside of China are at this advanced stage of development. We look forward to working in the field once again with Aurora Geosciences and our other consultants to advance this strategically important project. The list of pre-construction deliverables continues to shorten, and Bokan aims to be the first primarily heavy enriched rare earth mine to achieve production on U.S. soil.”

GOLD/SILVER – Redstar Gold Corp. June 24 said a field program is now underway at its Unga gold-silver project in Southwest Alaska. The phase-1 program includes detailed field mapping and sampling of high-grade gold-silver vein systems in preparation for diamond drilling. The field program will examine the highest-priority targets, such as the Shumagin Vein, where historic shallow drilling in the 1980s intersected significant high-grade mineralization which was confirmed by a drill program completed by Redstar in 2011. The vein remains open at depth and along strike. Other high-priority targets include the Apollo-Sitka and Aquila vein systems. Veins will be mapped in detail and sampled with a focus on extending known mineralization along strike, determining the distribution of mineralization within vein systems and assessing the geologic structural controls to mineralization. Redstar Chairman Jacques Vaillancourt said, “The Unga project gives Redstar control of an emerging, high-grade epithermal gold-silver district which has been overlooked for the past 30 years. The Unga Project represents tremendous exploration potential, as it's the first time the entire district has been consolidated under one operator for its integrated exploration and development.”
