DIAMONDS – Dominion Diamond Corp. July 16 reported that the Diavik Diamond Mine processed 620,000 metric tons of ore during the second calendar quarter of 2014, a 17 percent increase over production rates during the same period last year. This increased production along with higher realized grades resulted in 2.15 million carats of diamonds recovered during the second quarter of this year, a 38 percent increase over Q2, 2013. Dominion now projects that Diavik will produce 6.5 million carats of diamonds from 2.2 million metric tons of ore, compared to an earlier projection of 6.1 million metric tons form 1.9 million metric tons processed.

DIAMONDS – Arctic Star Exploration Corp. and North Arrow Minerals Inc. July 15 announced the start of an exploration drill program at the Redemption diamond project located near the Ekati and Diavik mines in the Lac de Gras region of Northwest Territories. The companies plan to test six to eight priority targets in the central part of the property with the 1,000-meter drill program. The targets have been identified based on results of a detailed data compilation and new airborne and ground geophysical surveys. The drill targets include various combinations of gravity, magnetic and electromagnetic geophysical responses that have been further prioritized based on their location with respect to the termination of the South Coppermine kimberlite indicator mineral train, which represents one of the last well defined and unsourced KIM trains in the Lac de Gras region. The discovery of even a single kimberlite from any of these top priority targets would upgrade a number of the remaining prospective targets within the Redemption property. The drill program is expected to run through to the middle of August. A follow up winter/spring 2015 drilling program will be required to test ice based targets. North Arrow is exploring the Redemption property under an option agreement with Arctic Star. North Arrow can earn a 55 percent interest by investing C$5 million in exploration expenditures by July 1, 2017.

DIAMONDS – Kennady Diamonds Inc. July 15 announced the start of the 2014 summer drill program at its Kennady North diamond project in Northwest Territories. The company plans to complete at least 5,000 meters of drilling focused on delineation of the Kelvin and Faraday kimberlites as well as exploration drilling at the MZ and Doyle kimberlites and four new exploration targets. Two rigs are drilling at the Kelvin kimberlite. The first rig is conducting delineation drilling at the northern edge of the Kelvin northwest lobe where last spring's drill hole KDI-14-018 intersected undiluted kimberlite over 80 meters, with substantially all of the kimberlite to the north and outside the current geological model. This drill rig will then move to drill a "fence" of holes from northeast to southwest along the western shore of Kelvin Lake to test the continuity to depth of the Kelvin kimberlite dyke, which dips to the northwest at approximately 15 degrees. Kennady Diamonds CEO Patrick Evans said, "The Kelvin dyke system extends over more than one kilometer to the southwest of the main Kelvin pipe. Past drilling of the Kelvin dyke has returned kimberlite intercepts ranging from a few meters to over 20 meters. If the current drill program is successful is proving continuity of the dyke system to depth, the potential exists for considerable additional tonnage.” The second rig is drilling vertical and near vertical holes along two lines from the lake shore to the northwest along the strike of the northwest lobe of the Kelvin kimberlite. In addition to adding to the Kelvin mini-bulk sample, these holes will also test the depth of the kimberlite emplacement along the northwest lobe. Kennady said logging and analysis of the Kelvin 25-metric-ton mini-bulk sample recovered during the spring drill program is now complete and is being shipped to Saskatoon for processing at the Geoanalytical Laboratories Diamond Services of the Saskatchewan Research Council. Results from the sample are expected early in the fourth quarter of 2014. In addition, the Faraday one-metric-ton kimberlite sample is currently being processed that the SRC and diamond recovery results are expected during the current quarter. “Our vision is to define a Kelvin – Faraday resource of between 5 million and 8 million metric tons with a grade of greater than two carats per metric tons. We expect to be able to declare our maiden resource by the end of 2014,” concluded Evans.
