MANAGEMENT – Canterra Minerals Corp. Aug. 14 welcomed Bruce Kienlen as senior geologist and Tom McCandless, Ph.D., as technical advisor to the company. Kienlen formerly served as project geologist for BHP Billiton’s Diamond Group before his appointment as vice president exploration for Diamonds North Resources Ltd. Kienlen has more than 20 years exploration experience generating, managing and assessing projects with technical expertise in geochemical evaluation. McCandless is the former chief mineralogist with both Stornoway Diamonds and Ashton Mining of Canada and has more than 30 years of experience in exploration and early-stage development of mineral properties. After several years of service, Walter Melnyk, has recently retired as vice president, exploration for the company, but will remain as an advisor. Canterra President and CEO Randy Turner said, “Both Bruce and Tom are great additions to the technical team and their diamond experience will help drive the success of our exploration efforts. We would also like to thank Mr. Melnyk for his contributions to our exploration success to date and wish him well in the future.” In addition the company granted incentive stock options to certain directors, officers and employees to purchase up to 700,000 common shares under the Canterra’s incentive stock option plan. The options will be granted for a period of five years, commencing Aug. 14, exercisable at a price of C15 cents per share.

DIAMONDS – Gahcho Kué joint venture partners, De Beers Canada Inc. and Mountain Province Diamonds Aug. 12 announced that the Mackenzie Valley Land and Water Board has issued the Gahcho Kué Type A Land Use Permit and sent the Type A Water License for final approval to the Northwest Territories Minister of Environment and Natural Resources. “This represents one of the final regulatory steps for the Gahcho Kué diamond mine and is the result of very hard work by the project team over the past eight years with the board, regulatory agencies, aboriginal parties, communities and other stakeholders,” said De Beers Canada CEO Tony Guthrie. “We will continue to develop the Project responsibly in keeping with the principles of sustainable development, including protection of the environment, and with respect for Aboriginal culture and traditions.” Gahcho Kué will employ nearly 700 people during the two years of construction and some 400 people once in operation. “As the world’s largest and richest new diamond mine, Gahcho Kué will maintain Canada's position as a leading diamond producer,” said Mountain Province CEO Patrick Evans. “Employment created by Gahcho Kué and revenues generated by the mine will contribute to growth and prosperity in the NWT.”
