BP says lease offering does not include ANWR, Brooks Range Foothills, NPR-A

BP Exploration (Alaska) Inc. has changed a statement made to PNA on Friday, Nov. 22, about the company’s leases in the coastal plain of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge being for sale.

BP spokesman Paul Laird told PNA this morning that the company is in the process of finalizing an offering “to a select number of companies” of its “non-unitized” North Slope leases. He said the offering will not include BP’s acreage in the National Petroleum Reserve-Alaska, Brooks Range Foothills or ANWR, where BP has an interest in approximately 90,000 acres with ChevronTexaco USA that includes the KIC well.

BP has, however, dropped its membership in Arctic Power, the Anchorage-based association formed to promote drilling in the coastal plain.
