CORRECTION: Pioneer acreage north of Prudhoe, not around Northwest Kuparuk discovery
Petroleum News misstated the location of Pioneer Natural Resources’ Beaufort Sea tracts in yesterday’s news bulletin on the state’s areawide Beaufort Sea and North Slope lease sales.
Pioneer took offshore acreage north of Prudhoe Bay, not near its Northwest Kuparuk discovery, and Chris Cheatwood, Pioneer’s executive vice president for worldwide exploration, characterized that acreage as “just north of Prudhoe.” He characterized the large onshore block the company acquired as “between Prudhoe and Kuparuk.”
