Mat-Su borough approves Fowler’s CBM well

At a meeting in Wasilla last night the Matanuska-Susitna Borough Planning Commission unanimously approved a conditional use permit for Fowler Oil and Gas (Alaska) to drill a coalbed methane well.

According to Fowler President Arlen Ehm, who attended the meeting, the commission acted on its staff’s recommendation. Of the 15 people or so who showed up to testify about the well, more than half spoke in favor of the drilling, Ehm said.

The company still needs federal and state permits for the well, which will be drilled in the spring on farmland between Palmer and Wasilla in the Kircher unit at the corner of Bogard Road and Trunk Road.

The Kircher unit is on homestead land where the landowner owns both the surface and subsurface rights.
