Conoco: Willow discovery could be 300 million barrels

ConocoPhillips Alaska this morning announced a discovery at its National Petroleum Reserve-Alaska Greater Mooses Tooth unit. The company said the Willow discovery was made by the Tinmiaq 2 and Tinmiaq 6 wells, drilled in early 2016. The wells, some 4 miles apart, encountered a Brookian Nanushuk accumulation which could be in excess of 300 million barrels of recoverable resource.

The company said the Tinmiaq 2 had a sustained 12-hour test rate of 3,200 barrels per day of 44 API degree oil.

The wells encountered 72 feet and 48 feet respectively of net pay.

Appraisal will begin this month with acquisition of 3-D seismic.

ConocoPhillips said production could be some 100,000 bpd from the accumulation, with commercial production possible as early as 2023.
