Four NPR-A wells permitted

BP Exploration (Alaska) Inc. and Phillips Alaska Inc. each received two state drilling permits for National Petroleum Reserve-Alaska winter exploration work March 15, the Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission said March 19. Phillips received drilling permits for the 1 Lookout and 2 Rendezvous wells. BP received permits for the G-1 Trailblazer and the H-1 Trailblazer.

Phillips Alaska spokeswoman Dawn Patience told PNA that both Doyon and Nabors were mobilizing rigs for the company's winter NPR-A drilling, which was expected to start the week of the 19th.

Mull changes agencies, continues foothills mapping project

North Slope geologist Charles G. (Gil) Mull has been hired by the state Division of Oil and Gas in Anchorage, where he will begin work in early April.

Division Director Mark Myers told the Alaska Geological Society March 15 that the division is actively working in the foothills area to try to define public information.

"Our best vehicle," he said, "is that Gil Mull is coming down to join the Division of Oil and Gas ... He will be with us two years, specifically to work on compiling this regional map of the foothills." Mull is currently with the Alaska Division of Geological and Geophysical Surveys in Fairbanks.

Myers said the division wants to provide an environment for Mull, "a world-class expert" to finish his work and get it published. Mull will also be more available for people who want to talk to him about foothills geology, Myers said.
