Enstar submits new gas contracts to RCA

Enstar Natural Gas has submitted two new contracts for Cook Inlet gas supply to the Regulatory Commission of Alaska.

In an April 11 filing Enstar said it needs the gas to meet a shortfall in its gas supplies beginning next year.

The contracts are with ConocoPhillips Alaska and Marathon Oil, and cover five years, rather than the eight years proposed in a 2005 Marathon contract rejected by the commission in 2006.

Enstar told the commission it hopes to begin purchasing under the new contracts on Jan. 1. The company said the contracts fill a gap of some 2.1 billion cubic feet in its gas supply portfolio for 2009.

The ConocoPhillips and Marathon contracts fill Enstar’s “unmet requirements through 2010, but not all of those requirements through 2013.”
