International rig count up in January

Baker Hughes says the international count of working rigs for January 2007 was 972, up 21 from 951 rigs in December, and up 67 from 905 rigs counted in January 2006.

The company said the international offshore rig count for January was 276, up five from 271 in December and up 13 from 263 in January 2006.

The U.S. rig count for January was 1,714, down four from 1,718 rigs in December, but up 241 from 1,473 rigs in January 2006. The January Canadian rig count was 568, up 112 from 456 in December, but down 92 from 660 in January 2006.

Worldwide, the January rig count was 3,254, up 129 from 3,125 in December and up 216 from 3,038 in January 2006. Those rigs were in Latin America (335), Europe (74), Africa (69), the Middle East (263), the Far East (231), Canada (566) and the U.S. (1,714).
