Anadarko spuds Jacob’s Ladder

According to Petroleum News sources Anadarko Petroleum recently re-entered its Jacob’s Ladder well on Alaska’s North Slope. The Houston-based mega-independent started drilling the exploration well last winter, and re-entered it using the newly winterized Akita 63 rig.

An oil prospect, Jacob’s Ladder sits 10 miles southeast of Prudhoe Bay near the former Slugger unit. Other partners in the project include Arctic Slope Regional Corp. and the London-based BG Group.

State Division of Oil and Gas geologists believe the Lisburne (Wahoo formation) structure in Jacob’s Ladder could yield a range of 20 million to 660 million barrels of oil equivalent and the Sadlerochit (Ivishak formation) structure could yield a range of 50 million to 800 million boe.

Depending on what Anadarko finds at Jacob’s Ladder, the company might do more drilling there or drill another nearby prospect. Earlier this winter, Anadarko spud Gubik No. 3, the first well intentionally targeting gas in northern Alaska.
