Well scheduled for Kuparuk River unit expansion area three

Petroleum News Alaska Staff

ConocoPhillips Alaska Inc. told the Division of Oil and Gas in late December that it would drill the 2G-17 well to evaluate expansion area three at the Kuparuk River unit. The expansion, approved by the division last year, has a number of work commitments. The well in expansion area three is the only drilling requirement which falls due in 2003.

ConocoPhillips said it and partners BP, Unocal, Chevron and ExxonMobil Production Alaska have agreed to drill the 2G-17 well "in satisfaction of the Expansion Area 3 work commitment." The well will evaluate the Kuparuk formation and terms of the expansion require that the well be drilled by June 1 this year.

Area three includes four tracts adjacent to the Kuparuk River unit on its south-central boundary. A second well (Cayman No. 1 well) is required in this expansion area by June 1, 2004.
