Wooden mats offer versatility
Petroleum News Alaska Staff
B.K. Hanna Construction Mats of Sherwood Ore. is offering reusable interlocking oak and hickory wood mats designed to carry heavy traffic over sensitive land.
Each 2,500 pound mat is five inches thick in eight foot by 16 foot sections that interlock side-by-side in pairs and end-to-end to form the desired length of roadway. A pick cable is located at each end to facilitate installation and removal.
The 12-foot-wide driving surface provides mud free traction while the ground is protected from repetitive compression disturbance that changes drainage patterns and inhibits re-growth of native vegetation. Having clean tires keeps sewers free of mud and prevents silt runoff into fish streambed habitat. Jobs continue even in adverse weather conditions, the company said.
