The U.S. Bureau of Land Management and U.S. Forest Service are offering a training session in Anchorage on environmentally sound development of geothermal energy.

BLM said this is one of seven sessions being held in the Western United States to provide an understanding of the process involved in leasing geothermal resources on federal lands. Benefits of the programmatic environmental impact statement for geothermal energy published in October will be described.

The training session is free, requires no registration and will last three hours. BLM said the project management staff from the PEIS team will be present.

Topics will include applicable laws and regulations, identification of lands open or closed to geothermal development, the nomination and leasing process and a review of leasing stipulations and best management practices in the PEIS and record of decision. The Anchorage session will be June 3 from 1-4 p.m. at the Alaska Energy Authority boardroom, on the third floor at 813 W. Northern Lights Boulevard.
