BP hands out 14 scholarships

BP has awarded scholarships to 14 Alaska students who are pursuing degrees in Process Technology at the University of Alaska.

The program is key for those interested in working in the oil and gas and other process industries. BP has hired 67 graduates of the program since 2002, as well as providing 10 to 20 intern positions each summer since 2001.

A total of 56 scholarships have been the awarded to Alaskans by BP since the Process Technology degree was put in place in January 2000 in Fairbanks, Kenai and Anchorage.

The two-year degree is designed to provide education and training that will enable individuals to obtain employment in the industries that use and control mechanical, physical, or chemical processes to produce a product.

In Alaska, this includes the process industries of oil and gas production, chemical manufacturing, petroleum refining, power generation and utilities, water and wastewater treatment, and seafood and other food processing.
