Commissioner Tom Irwin said Dec. 21 that the Alaska Department of Natural Resources has recognized the need to create two offices because of the magnitude of workloads and complexities of the Alaska Coastal Management Program and the Large Project Management team.
The ACMP functions, formerly under the Office of Project Management and Permitting, will be housed in the new Division of Coastal and Ocean Management. Randy Bates, formerly deputy director of OPMP, has been named director of the new division.
Ed Fogels, who has held numerous positions within DNR, including the state’s large mining coordinator, has been named director of OPMP, which will retain the Large Project Management team and Alaska National Interest Lands Conservation Act functions.
