Charlie Boddy retires after 38 years at Usibelli

Usibelli said June 1 that long time employee Charlie Boddy, vice president of governmental relations, is retiring after 38 years. Boddy’s career began in early 1970 with Alaska Aviation Sales, an aviation division of Usibelli. He then moved to the mine in purchasing and warehousing, became manager of regulatory compliance and then moved to his current position. In his job he has traveled all over the state, working with the Legislature, congressional delegation and their staffs, as well as traveling to Washington, D.C.

“The toughest part was going east: That four hour offset gets a little tougher as you get older,” said Boddy.

Looking back over his years with Usibelli, Boddy said, “There was never a day I didn’t want to come to work. The family’s moral compass is the straightest I’ve ever seen.”

Boddy, a long-time Alaskan, moved from Texas to Fairbanks in 1958 with his family, when he was just a wild-eyed third grader. For his next chapter in life, Boddy is running in October’s mayoral race in Fairbanks. “I still look at Fairbanks like a wild-eyed third grader,” said Boddy, “it’s a very can-do place to live.”
