Arctic Directory: Schlumberger awards scholarships

Schlumberger said June 9 that it has contributed two scholarships to the American Association of Petroleum Geologists Outstanding Student Chapter Awards. Among the United States-based chapters, Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas, received an award and was honored as outstanding international chapter, as was the University of Bucharest in Bucharest, Romania.

“Schlumberger is committed to working with universities that continue to enhance their petroleum geosciences curriculum,” said Terry Woods, operations manager, Schlumberger Data and Consulting Services, Rockies and California. “We are honored to be able to support AAPG with its student’s development programs as these university students and future geoscientists will one day be our leaders in the oil and gas industry.”

Awards are presented yearly at the AAPG annual meeting. Student chapter requirements for selection of awards include maintenance of student AAPG memberships, active AAPG faculty sponsor, and participation in earth science week, field trips, meetings and special community events. This is the 12th year Schlumberger has sponsored the scholarships.
