Connacher applies for second project

Connacher Oil and Gas, through its wholly owned Great Divide Oil Corp., has filed applications with Alberta regulators for approval of its Algar project, its second venture into the Alberta oil sands.

Its 10,000 barrels-per-day Great Divide Pod One is scheduled for commissioning in August, while Algar is also planned as a 10,000 bpd operation, designed to recover 83 million barrels of bitumen over 25 years.

Subject to approvals, Connacher hopes to start construction before mid-2008 and ship diluted bitumen to refinery markets in the United States and Canada in 2009.
