BLM increases oil and gas processing fee

The U.S. Bureau of Land Management said Nov. 6 that on Nov. 2 it began charging a $6,500 processing fee for new oil and gas applications for permits to drill.

BLM said the fee increase from $4,000 was directed in the 2010 Interior Appropriation bill enacted Oct. 30.

BLM manages more land, 251 million surface acres, than any other federal agency, most in 12 western states, including 75 million acres in Alaska.

BLM’s multiple-use mission is to sustain the health and productivity of public lands for the use and enjoyment of present and future generations through management of outdoor recreation, livestock grazing, mineral development and energy production — and by conserving natural, historical and cultural resources on the public lands, the agency said in a statement.
