U.S. Coast Guard recertifies CIRCAC

The U.S. Coast Guard has recertified the Cook Inlet RCAC for another year.

“Recertification represents recognition of our continued effectiveness in protecting Cook Inlet waters and promoting safer navigation through work on our federal mandates and myriad of ongoing projects,” Executive Director Michael Munger said in a statement.

By recertifying the group, Rear Admiral Thomas Ostebo, commander of the Seventeenth Coast Guard District, has determined that the Cook Inlet Regional Citizens Advisory Council still meets the mandates of the Oil Pollution Act of 1990. The Cook Inlet RCAC is a nonprofit agency charged with overseeing, monitoring, assessing and evaluating oil spill prevention, safety and response plans, terminal and oil tanker operations, and environmental impacts of oil tanker and oil terminal operations in the Cook Inlet basin.

The certification is valid until Aug. 31. 2014.
