Hitting pay dirt in western Alberta
Alberta Clipper Energy, a three-year-old company, has helped give a lift to its home province’s sluggish exploration sector, with a new pool discovery in the Kakwa area of western Alberta’s Deep basin.
The junior company, which has doubled output to more than 3,300 barrels of oil equivalent per day over the past year, has confirmed sustainable high-rate production from the first two wells drilled into the pool.
It has also completed 3-D seismic mapping and land positioning initiatives.
Alberta Clipper’s activities identified a channel trend where gross potential exceeds 40 billion cubic feet of original-gas-in-place on company lands. Gross output from the property in the second quarter exceeds 2 million cubic feet per day per well and 12 development locations have been identified.
The company said the operator plans to drill two more development wells in the pool during the final quarter.
On completion of a 3-D seismic option, Alberta Clipper will hold an average working interest of about 40 percent in 11,360 acres of land at Kakwa.
