The Resource Development Council will hold its 29th annual meeting on Wednesday, Nov. 19, and Thursday, Nov. 20, at the Dena’ina Convention Center in Anchorage.

The two-day forum will cover topics ranging from the natural gas pipeline, to development on lands and waters around Alaska, to environmental and energy independence issues, to global finance, ballot initiatives and the Pebble mine.

Taking a different angle on energy issues, Kevin Stringer, the director general of the Petroleum Resources Branch for Natural Resources Canada, will look at energy initiatives and the environmental issues from a Canadian perspective.

Steve Haagenson, the new president of the Alaska Energy Authority, will talk about finding a long-term solution to Alaska’s energy crisis.

There will also be a panel discussion on the Endangered Species Act featuring state and federal officials, resources lawyers and representatives from environmental groups.

The conference will also include discussions about larger business issues that impact the oil and gas industries in Alaska.

Representatives from mining and fishing groups will talk about foreign investment in Alaska, while representatives from Doyon Limited, Chugach Alaska and Sealaska will look at the role of Native corporations in 2008 and in the coming years.

Jonathan King with Northern Economics will look at how the financial crisis and looming economic recession could impact resource development in Alaska in 2009.
