Oil Patch Bits: Rain for Rent PCB cleanup

Rain for Rent said March 27 that it responded to a bid request to clean up a river in Oregon.

In 1969 employees working on a dam disposed of three old electrical capacitors by dumping them into a nearby river. Over the years the capacitors corroded, dispensing oil laden with polychlorinated biphenyls.

Studies performed by a remediation agency revealed that the pollutants would most efficiently be removed by diver-assisted suction dredging and set the budget at $1.9 million. Rain for Rent offered a plan and approval was obtained; the company safely completed the entire dredging and filtration project within the 45-day time limit.
