Panel requests Northern Gateway comments
The Joint Review Panel for Enbridge’s Northern Gateway pipeline is requesting comments and has set dates in August and September for panel sessions to hear oral comments.
The panel asks for comments on a draft list of issues including the need for the proposed project; potential impacts of the project; environmental effects; financial regulation; design, construction and operation; safety, mitigation and prevention; and terms and conditions.
A staff counsel with the Pembina Institute, Karen Campbell, said in late June that environmental assessment of the Gateway project doesn’t match up with review of the Mackenzie Gas project, citing fewer panel members, three for Gateway while the Mackenzie panel has seven members, and lack of regional representation.
The Gateway project involves construction of two 1,170 kilometer pipelines between Bruderheim, Alberta, and Kitimat, British Columbia, along with construction and operation of the Kitimat Marine Terminal and related facilities.
