RDC, conservation community, promote partnerships
The Alaska Conservation Alliance and the Resource Development Council are jointly establishing an award honoring organizations, individuals or businesses that create solutions and innovations advancing both economic development and environmental stewardship. The organizations said in a Jan. 14 statement that they “have both stated that economic development and environmental stewardship are not exclusive goals.”
The award is being named in honor of two long-time Alaskans, Peg and Jules Tileston, “who worked on seemingly different sides of conservation and development issues but who always agreed ‘that if it is in Alaska, it must be done right!’”
RDC President John Shively and Alaska Conservation Voters President Pat Pourchot, both former commissioners of the Alaska Department of Natural Resources, were scheduled to launch the award at RDC’s bi-monthly breakfast meeting Jan. 17.
The organizations said the Tileston award will not be viewed as a green award for resource development or an economic award for a conservation organization, but will instead “be a uniquely Alaskan award whose recipients are determined by board members from each organization.”
The deadline for application is March 31. For more information on the award see www.tilestonaward.com.
