Oil Patch Bits: UMIAQ expands services with new department
UMIAQ said that it has established an environmental department that is uniquely organized into two key components: environmental services and field compliance services. UMIAQ is able to provide key services for Alaska-based operations from project planning, to construction through production. These services include environmental permitting and impact assessments, agency coordination and consultation, regulatory compliance management and a remote workforce of marine mammal observers/Inupiat communicators, environmental vehicle inspectors, and subsistence advisors.
Terri Mitchell has been promoted as the manager for UMIAQ’s newly formed environmental department. Mitchell holds a Master of Science in environmental policy and management with honors and has more than 14 years of experience providing environmental documentation and permitting for bathymetric surveys in the Arctic, telecommunication infrastructure, airports, roadways, wind towers, material sites and fuel tank farms. Under Mitchell’s management UMIAQ’s Environmental Department provides the expertise to support Alaska and Arctic operations through the development of oil spill response plans, emergency response plans, incident management expertise, NEPA documentation, and permit packages for the most challenging of projects. Current projects include the Arctic fiber project, a fiber optic line running from Tokyo to London through the Northwest Passage, Alaska LNG, response planning support for Shell, and the Point Thomson project.
