AOGCC extends Kuparuk field’s gas offtake

ConocoPhillips Alaska Inc. will continue selling gas from the Kuparuk River Oil Pool for other operations in the area, according to a recent ruling by the Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission.

The AOGCC originally allowed the company to take off as much as 3 million cubic feet of gas per day on a temporary basis from Kuparuk and later increased the amount to 5 million cubic feet per day upon request of the company.

Gas from Kuparuk is currently used for reinjection for gas lift and to maintain reservoir pressure.

The AOGCC is still reviewing whether the sale would be permissible on a permanent basis, and therefore extended the temporary allowance until March 15.

The AOGCC will continue taking comments on the matter through March 7.
