Agrium to open new office in Beijing

The fertilizer company Agrium Inc. announced plans on April 11 to open a representative office in China.

The Beijing office would let Agrium “further develop our on-going discussions with potential business partners” and pursue “further opportunities in the largest and most dynamic agricultural market in the world,” according to a prepared statement by Agrium President and CEO Mike Wilson.

Mark Wong will serve as the president of Agrium (China) Inc.

Currently, Agrium buys urea from Chinese sources, supplies muriate of potash to Chinese customers and holds an equity position in a Chinese fertilizer company.

Agrium recently closed a fertilizer plant on the Kenai Peninsula in Alaska because of declining supplies.
