Oil Patch Bits: Futaris secures investment position in networks
Futaris Inc., a subsidiary of Calista Corp., is pleased to announce its investment in Quintillion Networks Ltd. Futaris provides global IT and communication solutions via satellite, VoIP, broadcasting and LMR communications and has more than 30 years of private and federal telecommunications experience. Futaris is the only approved HITRUST Common Security Framework Assessor organization in the state of Alaska, and is licensed to conduct HITRUST CSF assessments nationwide.
Alaska-based QUINTILLION Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Quintillion Networks Ltd., is a middle-mile telecommunications company with exclusive rights to develop Alaska fiber optic landing sites. These sites will connect via spurs to a 15,000-plus kilometer subsea fiber optic network currently in the pre-construction phase. This project is led by Arctic Fibre Ltd. Quintillion has selected seven landing sites based upon the market and feasibility analysis. The landing sites range from Shemya in the Aleutian Chain, subject to federal government approval, to Prudhoe Bay on the North Slope. The project takes advantage of international economic opportunities to route via the Northwest Passage and North Arctic. This network will run between England and Japan, connecting vital financial markets.
Subsequent phases are being developed with the goal of expanding the network to neighboring communities. This improvement in affordability and capacity can provide a wide range of new opportunities for Internet service providers, who in turn, supply service to schools, local governments, health care providers, residential consumers and rural businesses.
