International rig count at 994 for March

Baker Hughes Inc. said April 9 that the international rig count (including nations other than Canada and the United States) for March 2007 was 994, up 13 from the 981 counted in February and up 96 from 898 counted in March 2006. The international offshore rig count for March was 283, down three from 286 in February and up nine from 274 in March 2006.

Of the international rigs counted in March, 365 were in Latin America, 77 in Europe, 65 in Africa, 260 in the Middle East and 227 in the Far East.

The U.S. rig count for March was 1,749, up 13 from 1,736 in February and up 198 from 1,551 in March 2006. The Canadian rig count for March was 392, down 243 from 635 in February and down 228 from 620 in March 2006. The worldwide rig count for March was 3,135, down 217 from 3,352 in February and up 66 from 3,069 in March 2006.
