PETROLEUM DIRECTORY: Schlumberger commemorates 25th anniversary in China
In December 2005 Schlumberger achieved 25 years of continuous operation in China. The company celebrated the occasion with its Chinese customers PetroChina, Sinopec and CNOOC.
“We are grateful to our customers for their support, friendship and trust extended to Schlumberger over the years,” said Imran Kizilbash, Middle East and Asia president for Schlumberger. “We are committed to bringing innovative technologies to the Chinese oil and gas market for years to come.”
The celebration included a contest for technical papers, as well as awards to those who have made outstanding contributions to promoting cooperation between Schlumberger and the Chinese exploration and production industry.
“This event marks a major milestone in our operations in applying Schlumberger technology to meet the E&P challenges in China,” said Lim Chin Leong, vice president and general manager, North Asia, for Schlumberger.
Schlumberger ran its first wireline log in China on Aug. 30, 1980, in well Ren-28 in Renqiu (now Hubei) oil field, the company said. Operating bases in Korla, Kaaramay, Tanggu, Chengdu and Shekou, together with supporting offices in Beijing and Urumqi, provide comprehensive oilfield services to China’s oil fields, both onshore and offshore.
In 2000, Schlumberger established the Beijing Geoscience Center, in the Tsinghua Science Park in Beijing, to develop formation evaluation software that focuses on the specific petrophysical and geomechanical challenges of the Chinese oil fields, the company said.
