BP to decide on western operations soon

Petroleum News

BP Exploration Alaska President Steve Marshall said Aug. 10 that BP is analyzing amendments to the Department of Transportation’s correction action order and expects to reach a decision by the beginning of the week of Aug. 14 on whether it can safely continue to operate the western operating area at Prudhoe Bay.

The company began a Prudhoe shutdown with the eastern operating area Aug. 6, reducing production from the field over the period of a few days to 120,000 barrels per day.

Marshall said the decision would be based on BP’s assessment of its ability to comply with the order and results of its ongoing inspection program.
