Mining News: Independence stakes Sixtymile gold project

Independence Gold Corp. June 8 said it has staked a 4,835-hectare (11,950 acres) property west of Dawson City and next to the Yukon-Alaska border. Known as Stinger, this property is situated at the headwaters Yukon’s Sixtymile, a mining district that has produced more than 500,000 ounces of placer gold. The Stinger property benefits from access via a network of placer mining and prospecting roads that connects with the Top of the World (Taylor) Highway. The claims were acquired using a proprietary stream sediment dataset that outlines an area anomalous in gold, silver, lead, zinc, arsenic and antimony. Independence said it will conduct an initial phase of ridge-and-spur soil sampling, along with a prospecting program to outline anomalies that will be further tested by trenching. The company has also expanded its Boulevard gold project in Yukon’s White Gold District. Using its stream sediment database, Independence has expanded Boulevard to the west. These new claims cover occurs along trend to the northwest of the 2,400-meter-long Sunrise-Sunset mineralized zone. The company will include this new area in its extensive geochemical soil sampling program that is anticipated to start later this month.
