Our Arctic Neighbors: Authorities release Russian rig crew

A crew of 43 workers was stranded for more than a week on the Energy Exerter drilling rig in the Barents Sea in late July when Russian immigration authorities blocked a crew change. The mainly Scottish crew, employed by Aberdeen-based Northern Offshore UK, was taking part in a five-month program for Russia’s Gazflot.

“We are very grateful for the continued support of our whole team — the delayed crew and those who have worked hard to get everyone home,” a spokesman for Northern Offshore told the BBC. “The Energy Exerter is now ready to commence drilling operations and we are looking forward to a successful relationship with the operator,” he added.
