The Explorers 2009:
Savant Alaska has spent the entirety of its tenure in Alaska focused on the eastern North Slope. The local subsidiary of the Denver-based independent picked up leases in Foggy Island Bay in 2006. Savant called the oil prospect Kupcake and drilled an exploration well from an ice island in early 2008, but the well failed to uncover hydrocarbon resources worth pursuing.
Savant re-emerged in late 2008 in a partnership with BP and Arctic Slope Regional Corp. with a plan to drill an exploration well at Badami, the long-troubled eastern North Slope unit. Savant started a well at the Red Wolf prospect this past winter, but stopped drilling in April because of weather conditions. The company plans to complete the exploration well this year, but BP recently announced plans to once again shut-in existing Badami production. Savant currently holds some 12,000 acres on the North Slope.
Current exploration focus Northern Alaska — central North Slope: drilling the Red Wolf well into a prospect close to the Badami field. Also planning new development drilling at Badami.
