Oil Patch Bits: PGS conducts first 3-D seismic GeoStreamer® survey in Gulf

Petroleum Geo-Services said Nov. 7 that it will acquire a new MultiClient 3-D seismic survey in the area of DeSoto Canyon offshore Alabama and Florida in the Gulf of Mexico, using its new GeoStreamer technology. Covering about 250 deepwater OCS blocks, the new program, named “Discovery,” will focus on an underexplored area recently opened for leasing. It will be the industry’s first 3-D implementation of GeoStreamer yielding higher fidelity data, PGS said. The first phase of data acquisition will begin in December and be completed in about nine months. BP America is a survey underwriter and will collaborate technically on the project.
