Wiggin named deputy DNR commissioner

Mark Wiggin is to become the new deputy commissioner of the Alaska Department of Natural Resources, DNR announced on Sept. 14.

“Mark is well equipped to step into this critical DNR role. His knowledge of upstream oil and gas issues, his experience in project development, and his work on resource economics and policy will add valuable expertise to DNR,” said DNR Commissioner Andy Mack when announcing Wiggin’s appointment.

DNR says that, to take up his new position, Wiggin will leave his current job as engineering and development manager for Brooks Range Petroleum, a job he has held since 2012. The agency says that Wiggin started his oil and gas career in 1980 in Houston, Texas, and moved to Alaska with ARCO in 1983. He held a number of engineering positions with ARCO, and later worked for various consultancy and engineering firms on major Alaska oil and gas projects. From 2005 to 2012 he worked for ASRC Energy Services on the Alaska gas pipeline project and on the Nikaitchuq oil field. Wiggin was a lead startup engineer for the Alpine and Milne Point oil fields, DNR says.

With a bachelor of science in mechanical engineering from Louisiana State University and a master of public policy from Duke University, Wiggin has served on a number of boards in Anchorage and has previously chaired the board of Municipal Light & Power.
