Our Arctic Neighbors: Norwegian firm leases BOS 3-D seismic vessel

Geophysical company TGS-NOPEC has signed a mutually binding letter of intent with Norway’s Bergen Oilfield Services for use of the three-dimensional seismic vessel BOS Arctic, the companies announced Sept. 9. The contract begins in November and lasts for a minimum of 12 months, with an option for TGS to contract one of BOS’ 3-D vessels for another 12-month period under the same commercial terms. The BOS Arctic has already completed two projects since her launch in June 2008.

“We feel confident that the BOS Arctic will deliver best-in-class seismic services to TGS,” said Jan Sovik, BOS’ vice president for marketing and sales. “We are further excited to expand our 3-D activity to cover areas outside the North Sea. BOS will continue to expand its fleet of operated and owned vessels in the coming months.” Currently, BOS has two other vessels in its fleet, BOS Atlantic and BOS Angler, which are both designed for 2-D seismic data acquisition.

TGS has a worldwide collection of more than four million digital well logs. Coverage is available for major exploration and development plays worldwide, including North America and the Gulf of Mexico, Russia/CIS, Offshore Northwest Europe, West Africa and Madagascar. In the Arctic, TGS already has data sets from Alaska, Greenland, Svalbard, the Russian Barents Sea and the Chukchi Sea.
