French named chair of AOGCC
Gov. Bill Walker has named Commissioner Hollis French to chair the Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission. French replaces Commissioner Cathy Foerster, who has been commission chair since 2012. The appointment was effective July 1.
Commission terms are for six years and the governor designates one member of the commission for a four-year term as chair. Members may not serve successive terms as chair.
Hollis was most recently a state senator, representing Anchorage. He was named to the commission’s public seat by Walker in 2016 and confirmed by the Legislature earlier this year.
Foerster holds the petroleum engineer seat and has served on the commission since 2005. Her current appointment has some two years to run and she told House Resources in February that she will not seek reappointment.
The third member of the commission, Dan Seamount, holds the geologist seat. He has served since 2000 and was reappointed by Walker and confirmed by the Legislature earlier this year. He served as chair from 2008 to 2012.
