Flint Hills names new refinery manager

Mike Brose has been named vice president of Alaska operations and refinery manager for Flint Hills Resources Alaska’s North Pole refinery. Brose began overseeing operations at the 220,000 barrel-per-day crude oil refinery on May 1.

“Mike brings strong refining knowledge and management skills to our operation in Alaska,” said Jeff Wilkes, executive vice president of operations in a May 8 press release from the company. “He will help guide our team as we continue to efficiently produce fuels and other products for our customers in Alaska.”

Brose had been focusing on technical services and organization development since he moved to the North Pole refinery in 2009 from the company’s plant in Rosemount, Minn. He has been with Flint Hills since 1998 in a number of engineering and leadership roles.

Brose replaces Mark Gregory who is transferring to Flint Hills Resources’ Corpus Christi, Texas, refinery.

Brose’s family includes wife Lisa and three children, who have all quickly become part of the Fairbanks community, the company said. As a family they are involved with youth hockey and soccer programs, the dramatic arts, St. Raphael’s Parrish and Watershed School.

Flint Hills Resources Alaska became owner of the North Pole refinery in 2004. The refinery has been operating for more than 30 years.

A subsidiary of Koch Industries Inc., Flint Hills Resources L.P.’s subsidiaries include the North Pole and Rosemount refineries as well as a plant in Corpus Christi, Texas. Together, the three refineries have a combined crude oil processing capacity of more than 800,000 barrels per day.

Koch Alaska Pipeline Co., a subsidiary of Koch Pipeline Co. L.P., which is owned by Koch Industries, has a 3.08 percent interest in the Trans Alaska Pipeline System.

Based in Wichita, Kan., Koch Industries is one of the largest private companies in the world.
