ConocoPhillips spuds new well at Beluga

On July 31 ConocoPhillips spud the Beluga River Unit 232-23 well, a new development well, in the Beluga River gas field on the west side of Alaska’s Cook Inlet, using Doyon Drilling’s Arctic Fox No. 1 rig, ConocoPhillips spokeswoman Natalie Lowman told Petroleum News Aug. 4. This is the only new well planned for Beluga River this year, she said.

The well is not part of ConocoPhillips’ gas well drilling commitment in the agreement with the State of Alaska for the renewal of the export license for the Nikiski LNG plant on the Kenai Peninsula. ConocoPhillips met that commitment when it drilled two wells at Beluga River in 2008, Lowman said.
