Trucking natural gas has some support

The Alaska Gasline Port Authority’s plan to truck natural gas to Fairbanks is being supported by most of the borough assembly members who approved the entity more than a decade ago.

Only two of nine members from the 1999 Fairbanks North Star Borough Assembly remain on the panel today.

The Fairbanks Daily News-Miner contacted those no longer on it to gauge their view of the plan which deviates from the authority’s original mandate to advance a gas pipeline.

Former Assemblywoman Eileen Cummings says if it is necessary to change direction to get cheaper energy for Fairbanks, it should happen.

Former Assemblyman Dave Veazey agrees, saying conditions change and new proposals make sense as a result.
