Prince William Sound RCAC board to meet
The Prince William Sound Regional Citizens’ Advisory Council will hold its quarterly board meeting May 2-3 at the Valdez Convention and Civic Center. The meeting, from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. May 2 and 8 a.m. to 2:20 p.m. May 3, is open to the public except for executive sessions.
The board will consider a proposed position calling for a ban on the use of chemical oil-spill dispersants in Prince William Sound and will elect a new executive board.
Other agenda items include: a presentation on the council’s new automated identification system, which tracks tankers, tugs and other vessels in Prince William Sound; an update on efforts to secure regulation by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency of air pollution from the ballast water treatment facility at Alyeska Pipeline Service Co.’s Valdez tanker terminal; a presentation on opposition to Alyeska’s efforts to reduce frequency of inspections of the terminal’s 14 crude oil storage tanks; a presentation on corrosion systems at the Valdez terminal; and an update on the status of the Prince William Sound tanker escort system.
