Petroleum News

Alaska North Slope crude oil production averaged 742,460 barrels per day in March, up 1.6 percent from a February average of 730,727 bpd.

The Alaska Department of Revenue’s spring 2008 forecast for fiscal year 2008 ANS production is 720,000 bpd and the department’s Tax Division said in late March that year-end production for FY 2008 is currently projected at 721,000 bpd, some 1,000 bpd above the spring forecast; the fall forecast for FY 2008 production was 731,000 bpd. The fiscal year ends June 30.

Actual ANS production for FY 2007 was 740,000 bpd; the forecast for FY 2009 (begins July 1) is 678,000 bpd.

ANS production peaked at more than 2 million bpd in 1988.

Lisburne, Alpine drive increase

The March ANS production increase came primarily from higher average production at the BP Exploration (Alaska)-operated Lisburne field and the ConocoPhillips Alaska-operated Alpine field, up 11.7 percent and 8.5 percent respectively March over February. There were smaller March-over-February increases at BP’s Milne Point field, the BP-operated Endicott field and the ConocoPhillips-operated Kuparuk River field.

Lisburne, which includes Point McIntyre and Niakuk production, averaged 38,104 bpd in March compared to 34,101 bpd in February.

Alpine, which includes satellite production from Fiord and Nanuq, averaged 114,144 bpd in March compared to 105,165 bpd in February.

Milne Point, which includes Sag River and Schrader Bluff production, averaged 34,007 bpd in March, up 4 percent from an average of 32,694 bpd in February.

Endicott, which includes Sag Delta and Eider production, along with some 33,000 bpd of Prudhoe Bay Flow Station 2 oil, averaged 48,924 bpd in March, up 3.4 percent from a February average of 47,295 bpd.

The Kuparuk River field, which includes Tabasco, Tarn, Meltwater and West Sak production, averaged 151,502 bpd in March, up 0.6 percent from a February average of 150,618 bpd.

Two North Slope fields down

The BP-operated Prudhoe Bay field, which includes Aurora, Borealis, Midnight Sun, Orion, Polaris and some Lisburne and Point McIntyre production, averaged 324,037 bpd in March, down 1 percent from a February average of 327,444 bpd. Prudhoe accounted for 43 percent of North Slope production in March; Kuparuk accounted for 20 percent; and Alpine accounted for 15 percent.

BP-operated Northstar averaged 31,741 bpd in March, down 5 percent from a February average of 33,410 bpd.

The March temperature at Pump Station 1 on the North Slope averaged minus 17 degrees Fahrenheit compared to minus 14.3 F in February.

In Cook Inlet, total oil production averaged 13,246 bpd in March, up 1.3 percent from a February average of 13,076.
