Arctic Power launches new Web site
Arctic Power, the Alaska-based group pressing for oil development in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, has launched a new Web site designed to help individual supporters take action directly to influence Congress.
This “mini-site” at http://action.anwr.org will allow visitors to take several actions to further ANWR’s cause through cyberspace. Among them:
(1) Send letters to members of Congress;
(2) Submit letters to the editor of a local newspaper;
(3) Sign a petition in support of ANWR development;
(4) Alert friends and contacts and encourage them to visit the Web site; and
(5) Join a blog designed for ANWR supporters. (A blog is an online journal composed of links and postings in reverse chronological order, meaning the most recent posting appears at the top of the page. Weblogs typically link to other Web sites and blog postings, and many allow readers to comment on the original post, thereby allowing audience discussions.)
The new Arctic Power Web site is linked to the group’s main Web site at www.anwr.org.
Arctic Power officials asked members and supporters the week of May 14 to browse the new site, sign the ANWR Petition, and tell friends to take action.
“The ‘Write Your Congressmen’ and ‘Tell Your Newspaper’ links are currently under construction and should be up and running within a day or two,” an Arctic Power spokeswoman said May 16. “Once up and running, we’re confident this effort will be quite effective.”
