Q. What is the official name of your company?

A. Alpha Seismic Compressors, LLC

Q. Is your firm a subsidiary or affiliate of other companies?

A. No.

Q. What do you most want people to know about your company?

A. Alpha Seismic Compressors caters to a very demanding, niche market; offshore seismic exploration and drilling contractors. ASC provides customized seismic, high pressure air compressor systems for rent. Additionally, ASC can rig your vessel, install air systems including fuel and air hose systems, test, start up and operate. We can maintain equipment and provide spare parts and consumables as a package. Our units are designed to be highly mobile and carry a small foot print and be light weight. These units were specially designed and built to provide continuous duty in harsh and demanding environments. They are tested and proven. Our units have performed without failure in the Alaskan and Russian Arctic, Alaska, Canada, Brazil, West Africa, Gulf of Mexico, Caribbean to name a few.

Q. Where is your company located?

A. Our Fleet Operations are in Houston, TX. Our corporate, administrative and sales operations are in Portland, OR.

Q. What year was the company founded and by whom?

A. ASC was founded in 2010. Owners Steve Reese, Ken Guenther and Fred Pfaffle decided there were favorable synergies in combining our high pressure air compressor knowledge, assets and management expertise into one company. We saw a need for our services: To provide seismic air compressor rentals and offer high pressure air source solutions worldwide.

Q. What is your company’s primary business activity?

A. Our focus is providing specialized, customized services for the offshore seismic exploration and drilling industry. We are helping industry leading seismic contractors and vessel owners. We rent, install, train, operate and maintain seismic air compressor systems. ASC Units are well suited for a multitude of marine seismic applications including shallow water and transitional zone, geohazard, high resolution, seismic while drilling, wide azimuth, life of field, 2D, 3D and 4D. Our equipment has been successfully deployed on many vessels of opportunity, drill ships, drill rigs, seismic vessels. We generally have packages available to fit most seismic air source needs.

Q. Are there important projects the company is currently a part of or has done recently?

A. Every single project we do is important. Whether in Alaska, the Arctic, Gulf of Mexico, West Africa, Brazil or any place worldwide our compressors are needed to perform continuously and reliably in harsh and demanding conditions. These are very expensive projects for our clients. We prove every day we understand how important their project is.

Q. How many employees does your company have?

A. Through affiliated corporate arrangements and ongoing projects we have a staff of approximately twenty available to us.

Q. Describe the equipment your company uses and are there any new equipment purchases planned?

A. ASC owns a substantial rental fleet of customized, marine seismic air compressors, spare parts and consumables and provides all the necessary extra services to integrate with vessel and other seismic equipment. We are continually looking for investment opportunities in marine seismic compressors and related equipment.

Q. Is your company expanding any of its operations or locations?

A. Yes. Providing customized marine seismic air compressors for rent is not our only business. We offer vessel rigging, installation, testing, start up, training, operation, spare parts and consumables to meet the demanding standards each job requires. Aftermarket services are a key component for our expansion. This business is a lot more than just providing a compressor.

Q. Is the company changing any of its services or products?

A. We are continually upgrading our fleet and continue to add more value added services like vessel rigging, installation, operation, maintenance and spare parts and consumables.

Q. What is your company’s main strength or its edge over the competition?

A. Customization; State of the art, mobile air compressors; Trained and capable operators and mechanics; Experience. The competition is good. We continuously work to be great. We have deep field experience and a committed management team.

Q. What new markets, clients or projects did your company attract in the last year?

A. We did several important geohazard projects in the Gulf of Mexico and a large project in the Russian Arctic. Our compressors performed successfully on offshore drill platforms, and small, dedicated seismic vessels worldwide.

Q. What is the most challenging work or contract the company has undertaken? 

A. All of our work is taken as a challenge. Our systems have performed admirably in extreme cold and hot environments.

Q. What are the biggest obstacles to completing work your company undertakes?

A. Meeting timetables to accommodate each and every one of our clients’ requirements.

Q. What do you see as your company’s biggest challenge in the next five years?

A. Keeping up with demand.

Q. Does your company have an anniversary or other landmark event coming up?

A. We enjoy our annual trip to Alaska to meet with seismic industry friends. The annual Society of Exploration Geophysicists meeting and International Association of Geophysical Contractors Sporting Clay Tournament are events we enjoy sponsoring and seeing good friends.

Q. What is the average length of time employee’s work for the company?

A. We are a relatively new entity but each member has many years of corporate and/or solid field experience.

Q. What is your company’s safety record? What steps does the company take to ensure a safe work environment?

A. Our safety record is excellent. Helping our clients’ comply with HSE requirements is a big part of our job.

Q. Has your company been involved in any community projects or charity events?

A. In October every year we are proud sponsors of the International Association of Geophysical Contractors Sporting Clay Tournament.
