Oil Patch Bits: Fluor granted full notice to build power station

Fluor Corp. announced it has been granted full notice to proceed by Dominion Virginia Power to build its Greensville County, Virginia, power station. Fluor was awarded the contract by Dominion in April 2015 on a limited notice-to-proceed basis. Once completed, the combined-cycle, natural gas-fired power station will be the largest and most efficient natural gas-fueled power station in Virginia. Fluor booked an undisclosed value for the project in the second quarter of 2016.

“Fluor is proud to continue our valued relationship with Dominion and to move forward and begin this important next step on the Greensville County power station,” said Chris Tye, president of Fluor’s power business. “As with each of our projects, our team is committed to executing this project safely and with excellence. We also look forward to continuing our efforts to make a positive impact in the local community.”

The 1,600-megawatt Greensville County power station will produce enough electricity to power 400,000 homes at peak demand. It is located on a 1,143-acre site on the Greensville and Brunswick County line in southern Virginia.

Fluor is currently designing and building the two largest gas-fueled combined cycle power plants under construction in the United States. As a leader in the gas-fired engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning business, Fluor has led the design and build of nearly 50,000 megawatts of gas-fueled power facilities over the past 20 years.
